Archery at Sunway Pyramid

Hello everyone!

Hope it has been a great week for you all.
It’s a busy work week for me so far. Thursday’s public holiday in Malaysia helped out a bit, allowing me to catch up on some sleep.

Anyway, it was Good Friday on Friday 21st March 2008, so its a public holiday in Singapore.
My primary school and secondary school friend Terence happened to come down to KL for the long weekend holiday (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Hence, we met up during Saturday for lunch and half a day of fun.

After lunch, we played 2 rounds of bowling. Normally we would play more rounds, but Terence said that the bowling balls at Sunway Pyramid have all been changed, and the holes are surprisingly small for the normal 10 pound balls. His hand wouldn’t fit into the holes properly, so he had to use the 12 pound ball, which made him change his mind about the usual 3 or 4 games.

Then we stumbled across an archery range, which was just beside the bowling centre.

STARS ARCHERY
Although the picture looks empty,
there were actually a lot of people who play there.
I just waited for a good time to take this picture.

It seemed like fun, so we decided to give it a shot. It’ll was cool to be Robin Hood for a while.
Rates were RM9 for 12 arrows (1 person), and RM16 for 24 arrows (2 persons). Since there were the both of us, we decided to go by the RM16 package.

The funny thing was that, the receptionist told us that the package for 2 persons was 12 arrows per person. But they gave us more than 12 arrows each. Perhaps a miscalculation by the staff. BUT HEY, it works for us! Haha….

The arrows heads are kinda blunt, and not sharp. Probably just a safety issue. At the other end of the arrow, there are 3 plastic fins, which were supposed to be feathers (in those real ancient times archers’ arrows). One of them is red in color, while the other 2 were yellow. There’s also a plastic groove, for the bow string to fit into the back of the arrow.

The targets were not really far away, about 10 meters away.

Since it was our first time shooting, the assistants there guided us through our first shot.
1) We had to stand with our feet positioned as on the floor foot guides.
2) Mount the arrow onto the bow, and make sure that the red fin is always on the left, with the 2 yellow fins on the right.
3) Close the left eye and aim with the right eye.
4) Pull the bow until the right hand is almost at the right eye.
5) Look at the arrow and ensure that the rear of the arrow is aligned and parallel with the head of the arrow.
6) RELEASE and see what you’ve just hit.

Sounds pretty easy, but it can be quite taxing on the left hand (the one holding the bow), as it is normally the person’s weaker hand and it has to support the weight of the bow as well (bow’s weight probably close to 1kg in weight?)

And here are some pictures of us shooting!

Towards almost the end of our arrow shooting experience, I have began to feel my left hand aching from the weight of the bow, and both Terence and I began to sweat a bit, despite the place being air conditioned.

3 of my arrows missed the entire target. They just bounced off the wall and landed on the floor. Terence also missed a couple of them.
None of us hit the bullseye. I did hit 2 of the yellow inner circle. Terence fared around the same as me.
When our arrows were finished, we were still unsure about the total number of arrows we had. But that didn’t matter, cause we certainly had fun, and felt that it was enough.

Anyone interested? Check out the nearest Archery Centre near you, or go to Sunway Pyramid, for those of you who stay in KL.

Batting Cage at One Utama, KL

Backdated post.
Actual event took place on 9th March 2008.

My first weekend back in KL, and I’m loving it.
Went to One Utama during the evening with Hafiz during the weekend, and we decided to try out the batting cage.

I first saw this on Hotelier, another one of Aya Ueto’s drama. In the show, she goes to this batting cage to hit some baseballs, and said its a good way to destress, after a hard day’s work. Seeing that it was quite fun, I decided to have a go as well.

The batting cage was located on the rooftop of One Utama. You will need to access the particular lift, in order to go up there. By the time Hafiz and I went up there. It was already dark. Here’s a pic of me at the entrance. (Hafiz took the picture with his phone’s camera.) Looks like I’m entering into some enchanted place, with the flourescent lights around.

We saw a Malay guy playing there, and he was quite skilled, I must say. He was hitting at a percentage of almost 90%. Only a 10% miss.
Wow….

Prices of playing are quite okay. There is an unlimited 30 minutes play, meaning the balls will keep launching at you for a continuous 30 minutes, 9 seconds per ball launched. I forgot about the prices though. One can sign up to be a member, and get cheaper rates.

I paid RM18 for 3 tokens, each token entitles you to 15 balls. Since there is a 9 seconds per ball rule, a token can only last about 2 minutes plus.

It does not look as easy at it seems. The Malay guy made it look so easy, when it most certainly was not. I played 2 tokens, while Hafiz only played one. My probably of hitting was probably only 25% > 30%. Only managed to hit 4 or 5 balls. The rest were all missed.

Here’s a picture of Hafiz batting.

Although the hit percentage was low, there is a great feeling when you actually hit the ball. There will be a huge metal knocking sound. The bat will still be vibrating. The bat is made of aluminium I suppose. It was rather light to carry, and feels rather solid. Nevertheless, Hafiz decided to take a video of me batting my second round. I only managed to hit 4 or 5……

Feeling rather tired today.
Gotta run.
Take care everyone.
Goodnight

Back to KL 2008

Tadaima ~!

It simply means "I’m home", or "I’m back" in Japanese.
Usually used when a person gets home. However, I use it here, since I am back to my previous workplace again.

6th March 2008, marks the day which I’ve officially come back to KL to work again.
Got less clothes, as compared to the 2006 KL. This time, I only brought back one small travel of clothes, 2 laptops (office and personal), formal clothings, shoes, a mattress and ukulele! Enough for me, as I didn’t wanna move all my clothes over, so I can travel light, in a event when I go back to JB.

Will be staying over at Hafiz’s place first. Currently transportless. Decided not to take Dad’s old Toyota up again.
Where I stay, will determine if I were to buy myself a car or not. Hafiz’s place is about 25 km away from office. He has decided to rent a room to me for only 100RM, if I chose to stay with him. On the other hand, Mom has contacted one of my brother’s Polytechnic classmates, and his parents have a small room to rent. It is walking distance from my office.

I am still considering all this………….
But deep down, my like for driving is still calling out to me…

Today is 9th March 2008. Hafiz just went out for his St John Ambulance meeting. He’d be back around 2 or 3pm. I came across a series of youtube videos, featuring Aya Ueto with some pandas. Though I can’t really understand Japanese, but I figured that the show was about Aya training this Panda named Mew, on how to walk.

Below are the videos, three in all.

So sweet~

Gotta do some grocery shopping later.

Till the next post then….

Take care everyone!

Yuping’s Farewell at Dnium

*Backdated post
Actual event took place on 22nd February 2008……

I was surprised when Yuping told me that she visits my blog/photos on MSN spaces, even during the long period when I did not update anything.

Well Yuping, this entry is for you…..
And there will definitely be many posts for you to read this year!

Li Yu Ping
Dnium’s Database Administrator

Once again, another colleague leave the company.

Li Yu Ping, another colleague to be remembered from my time at Dnium Pte Ltd, Singapore. Definitely well worthy to be added into Dnium’s Hall of Fame (if there ever was one). She is pretty, smart, caring, hardworking, kind, and takes great initiative at work. Has always been a great person to work and to talk with…..

Her reason for leaving Dnium?

Her husband has got a job posting over at New York, United States of America for a period of 2 years. Therefore, her whole family (Herself, husband and kids) will be moving to stay there. Although my attempt to go to the States to work didn’t turn out as planned, at least all turned out fine for Yuping and family. Congratulations!

When I asked her if she was going to work in the States, she laughed and said most probably not. Her plan was going to spend the 2 years there, taking good care of her family, and taking the chance to tour around the States. 2 years is quite a lot of time for a tour in the States. Take your time Yuping~!

Over a chat with her during lunch, I came to know that apart from her US accomodations and other matters in Singapore being settled, the only thing left is looking for a school for her kids. Her son is still young, and probably is not aware of what’s going on, by going to the States at such an early age… She also said that her daughter knows they are going abroad, but will probably feel unused to the new environment.

I’m sure she’ll get used to it soon.
Yuping~ Give her a hug for me… and your son too~

Lunch was at the restaurant downstairs, on the ground floor of Block 20, where Dnium is located. It is a Western style restaurant, and the food and drinks tasted good.

Sausages with Rice~

Ham and Spaghetti~

Fried Chicken Wings with Rice~

Grilled Saba Fish with Rice~

Refreshing Grape juice~!
Yuping’s recommendation!

Lunch was great! And we completed the entire farewell with a cake which Yuping bought. Yum~!

Fresh Fruit Cake!

Soon it was time to say goodbye. Some sad feelings, but there were also happy feelings.
Mixed feelings all around…..

Yuping showing her happy self,
while I was sending her off…

Once again, I wish Yuping all the best in her future.
Hope to see you back after 2 years, or in the US, if I were to go there for a holiday!

Take care!

Meeting With Old Friends 2008

*Backdated post.
Actual event happened on 14th February 2008

Met up with old classmates and friends on the 8th day of Chinese New Year 2008.
John Goh was back from the UK for a 10 days holiday. He’s getting married at the end of the year December.
So he came back this time around, to get ready his hotel dinner bookings, wedding attire etc….

And of course, to meet up with us. I had not seen him for almost five years….. FIVE YEARS.

Before I continue this post, I’d like to say another CONGRATULATIONS to John, for being the first amongst us Malaysian secondary schoolmates to get married.

—————————————————

Okay. Meeting at Old Town White Coffee at Sentosa, Johor Bahru. A total of nine people arrived.

From left:
Jeff, Eefan, Wan Inn, (Wan Inn’s friend),
Zhan Hao, Daniel, Me, Terence, John

I forgot Wan Inn’s friend’s name!
I’m so sorry~! Gomei nasai!!!

I’ve not seen her before previously. It turned out that Jeff, Daniel, Mak, Wan Inn and her friend all went to the same kindergarden. It’s a small world isn’t it?

We chatted about old times, new times. It was fun, but soon it was time to go home. There’s still work on the next day for the rest.
Wan Inn took a candid shot of Terence and me, as below:

Old Town White Coffee.
Good times, great friends, nice drinks.

Took about 10 minutes to upload the above picture. Funny thing is that MSN Spaces is telling me that my picture cannot be uploaded due to 1) "My limit for the month has been reached", and 2) "Their servers might be busy at the moment. Please try again later."

I’m not sure of what’s their limit in 1). But I think I’m facing 2) instead, as I can upload the picture if I keep retrying. However it gets harder as I keep getting the error page.

Shucks…..

I hope it goes away soon. Otherwise it’ll be a hastle to upload pictures in this blog.

Gotta work tomorrow.
Sleeping soon.

Goodnight everyone!
Take care, and have a good Monday!

Oyasumi nasai~!

Ukuleles Unite

Hi everyone!

Bears, Love and Ukuleles

It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve returned to work, and, boy… has it been busy!
Anyway, I’ve stayed over at my buddy’s place in Singapore. Got rather slow internet connection there, as they are always downloading stuff. So this entry’s gotta wait till I get home to Malaysia.

As you all might have already know, my buddy Weijian’s got his own ukulele as well. I helped him restring it, and it sounds so much better.

Here’s a pic of us with our own ukulele.

A rare scene in Singapore, 2 tenor ukuleles side by side

Weijian’s still new to playing it, but he’s making good progress, for the past 3 days I stayed over his place. Was teaching him anything which he asked, and I gave my best to guide him on. He’s a fast learner. I’m sure he’ll soon play like a pro~!

Jamming some random songs.

Another shot of us.

Really had fun playing and teaching the ukulele. Hope to see the ukulele market expand in Singapore and Malaysia. Weijian has been introducing to some of his friends about Jake and the ukulele. I hope to find people in KL to play it too.

It’s been a long day, gonna rest soon.

Goodnight all.
Take care!
